Licence for Reproduction of Sound Recordings
With regards to a few of the queries received concerning the issues of using copyright music for our childhood montage and morning video/photo highlights, we hope this post serves as a form of reference and information.

Hweestudios have applied, paid and received the approved licence under Category A – “Reproduction of Sound Recordings into a videocassette tape or VCD or DVD as background music by wedding studios for wedding videography or photo montage.”
RIPS (Recording Industry Performance Singapore Pte Ltd) is a collective licensing body representing major record companies such as Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Music Singapore.

There’s a certain confusion between RIPS and COMPASS (Composers and Authors Society of Singapore) licences.
COMPASS licences are issued to hotels for playing of background music without video, such as during march-ins. RIPS covers the synchronisation of music and video together.
There’s an increase in hotels and banquet locations insisting on RIPS licence prior to playing of any videos. Do contact us for a copy of our licence permit before your wedding to prevent any unpleasant surprises.
Hope this post is able to re-assure our current and future Hweestudios wedding couples that you CAN have your own choice of music or song for the montage and video without any copyright infringements.
So, have a peace of mind to enjoy your big day like you should!
Congratulations to Apple!

For coming in 6th (Toasting/Speeches Category) at the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) 2010 Q1 contest.
May all your weddings moments continue to inspire her!
